Scent... An art Experiment.

OPENING RECEPTION Saturday, June 3, 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm

EXHIBITION runs June 3 - July 9, 2006

It is well known that scent can evoke very powerful memories, emotions, and images.
Please join us for a unique exhibit...
where scent is the sole inspiration for each work of art.

Essential oils have been used for centuries to treat physical illness, and emotional and spiritual imbalance. Our experiment was to give each artist essential oils without telling them the names of the oils or their traditional uses. The artists agreed to use their oils daily and create a piece of art based solely on the thoughts, emotions, or images evoked by the scents that were chosen for them.

During the show, we will display the artwork alongside the essential oil that inspired it so that the viewing public can have the sensory input that each artist experienced. We will also display any thoughts and feelings the artists choose to share about their experience. And finally, we will post the physical, emotional and spiritual uses for the oil that inspired each art piece and see if there are any commonalities between the two. It should be a fun night filled with beautiful artwork and heady aromas!

In conjunction with this show, on June 25th we are hosting a workshop by Belva Cunningham, LMT , who will teach attendees how to work with essential oils in their daily lives and at the end of the workshop, each attendee will go home with a product they have created for themselves.

Before using any essential oils, please educate yourself as to the potential problems and dangers that could occur with their use. We are NOT licensed aromatherapists, and there are many health conditions that could be worsened by the use of certain oils. Many oils are too "hot" to put directly on the skin, and most should not be ingested. There are many books available on the topic, and we suggest you consult them or a licensed aromatherapist if there is any doubt about the safety of an oil or the proper way to use it. Art & Invention will not be liable for the misuse of any essential oils.
